While this pig has mange mites over nearly all of its body, they are particularly evident on the ears. The most common mange mite for pigs, Sarcoptes scabiei var. suis, is highly infective among other pigs in the vicinity. They burrow into the epidermis, causing itching and depressed productivity. Several effective parasiticides are commercially available.
