The Tsurcana breed has evolved since prehistoric times, principally in the Carpathian Mountains. Constituting the principal breed in Romania, they are used for milk, meat and coarse wool often used for oriental carpets. Mature rams average about 70 kg bodyweight; mature ewes nearly 50 kg; lambs about 3.5 kg at birth and 30 kg at 150 days of age. All rams and half of ewes are horned. NAL # 5142 illustrates a Tsurcana ram. The Image Gallery home page shows a link to Breeds of Livestock including sheep.
