This image shows a heavy use pad located directly behind the concrete feed bunks at a feedlot in eastern North Dakota. The pad is wide enough to allow payloaders or skid steer loaders to scrape the pad and keep it relatively free of manure and allow cattle to stand with all four feed on the pad when they eat. The viewer will also not that there is a step (approximately 8 inches in width) directly behind the feed bunk. This allows smaller feeder cattle to more easily reach the feed bunk.
