Zenker's degeneration in vitamin E deficient rabbit (left leg) compared with normal litter-mate fed a stock diet. Note the differences in size, color, and the presence of whitish streaks, which are due to infiltration of calcium salts into the necrotic muscle fibers. In rabbits, increased concentrations of fat, phosopholipid and cholesterol have been observed.
